Coming from Newcastle

Take the MOYAD ROAD and travel out of the town for a good 14 kilometres (approx.) passing the Spelga and Fofanny Dam and the ending of the forestry. Then you will come across a set of X-roads and turn right onto the Trassey Road.

Follow the twist and turns, and then on past the bend you will come across a house on your right, and then continue on then another two farm houses to your left. Continue on till you pass a large “red-roofed” bungalow and continue another 100 yards (approx.) and turn into the right into Meelmore Lodge!

Follow the directions from the town centre to Bryansford village. Take the main B180 through the village past the village shop (on the left), on past the forest gates, round the bend heading to the Hiltown direction.

Keep following the forest on past the Tollymore Mountain Centre (on the left) and past the sudden stop of the forest (on your left), where you meet the first view of the Trassey Valley. Travel on up the road ignoring the road to your right (Tullyree Road), but keeping a close watch on your left. You will then come up to a bend and in the corner a big white house – opposite this house is the Trassey Road.

The road is signposted as is Meelmore Lodge. Follow the direction of the sign and the road where you will meet a “hump-back” bridge. Go over the bridge, then up the hill past the existing car park and beyond the entrance to the Trassey Track.
